firefox update
I've been using it all morning though on my Vista machine, and it works just fine. Maybe its Roberts machine, or a particular addon that is causing the problem.

facebook videos
The "secret" video lives of facebookers: "Oh, and it's easy to add video to your own profile and because you can make it so that just your Facebook friends can see your video it's pretty safe to play around and post some lame video that, if it were on YouTube might just go viral and get you onto the nightly news."
And its not just your own videos. Your friends can share your videos too. For instance, I shared Roberts video as a test, and it shows up on my profile. I'm assuming one of my friends could take Roberts video and share it, even though they wouldn't be Roberts friend. Potential for one of those viral videos.

doskey
doskey wa=cd C:\Users\Adnan\Some\Directory
Now when you type wa, you should change to the directory specified.
You can also specify shortcuts to run programs, for instance:
doskey vi=start c:\progra~1\vim\vim71\gvim.exe $*
Now "vi Autoexec.bat" should start up an instance of vi with the Autoexec.bat file open.
Speaking of Autoexec.bat, it doesn't work in Vista. I got around that by editing the shortcut and adding "/k C:\Autoexec.bat".
There is probably a better way to do this by now. If you know of one, leave it in the comments.

Gapminder
Data analysis as performance art: "Hans Rosling has been justly acclaimed for a couple of TED talks on global health in which he makes mesmerizing use of his (and now Google's) GapMinder software, which he uses to tell compelling stories with data. The software is very cool, but what really makes the stories come to life is Rosling's narrative. Data analysis, for him, is a performance art."
(Via Jon Udell.)
The Gapminder software is truly amazing. Hans Rosling's first talk was amazing. But he does even better in the second (it includes sword swallowing!).
On Linux
Can anyone hook him up for an interview with Mark Shuttleworth?
And yes, 2008 is going to be the "year of Linux on the Desktop". I took my laptop to show it to him when he was in Austin at Salt Lick, but didn't get a chance. I'm glad their are others out their now showing up with Linux.

dtrace on Mac OS X?
At the start of the interview they mention that Dtrace has been ported to Mac OS X. I knew work was in progress to port it to FreeBSD, but I didn't know about OS X. Wow, OS X now might have ZFS and Dtrace, those are some cool features that you probably won't see on Steve Jobs keynote.
virtual pc and slackware
I installed the recently released slackware 12 in virtual pc, and the install went well. However I had some problems with X. I already knew virtual PC doesn't support 24 bit graphics, so I edited xorg.conf and choose a default depth of 16. However, the mouse doesn't work. The solution to fixing that was editing lilo.conf and adding "i8042.noloop". This fixes the mouse issue. I still have one issue that I need to solve. When quiting X, the system doesn't return to the shell and freezes. I have to do a reset.
